La bordul modulului spaţial se aflau câteva mii de tardigrade, cunoscute şi sub denumirea de „urşi de apă", care este posibil să fi supravieţuit impactului, scrie The Telegraph. Acestea sunt considerate a fi cele mai rezistente creaturi de pe Pământ.
 
Tardigradele pot rezista la temperaturi de -165 de grade Celsius, fiind întâlnite la mii de metri adâncime. Unele rapoarte arată că tardigradele trăiesc chiar şi pe exteriorul Staţiei Spaţiale Internaţionale, fiind duse acolo, desigur, de om.
